A bronze model of a Turkish Horse, c. 1840 accompanied by a rare watercolour of a Turkish Warrior on horseback
Antoine-Louis Barye, (French, 1795-1875)
An exceptional, fine quality, mid-nineteenth century atelier bronze model of a ‘Turkish Horse’, dating from 1840, with right leg raised, by Antoine-Louis Barye, (French, 1796-1875). This bronze was produced using the sand cast process at the artist’s own atelier. It is signed ‘BARYE’ and has a brown, green and orange multicoloured patina.
This bronze is accompanied by a rare, fine quality nineteenth century watercolour of a ‘Turkish Warrior on Horseback’ also by Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1796-1875). This watercolour, signed ‘Barye’, is mounted in its original frame.
Both items have an important provenance, coming from the collection of Louis Sarlin, an important French nineteenth century collector.
