Hippopotamus, 1918
A fine quality, early twentieth century, lifetime bronze model of a ‘Hippopotamus’ by François Pompon (French, 1855 – 1933). This sculpture was cast in bronze by the lost wax process at the Claude Valsuani Foundry, Paris. Before casting, it was signed and stamped in the wax and has a warm brown patina with reddy brown undertones.
