Le Père Oudry, c. 1840
A fine quality, rare, nineteenth century bronze model of a ‘Drunken Bear Playing the Violin’ entitled, ‘Le Père Oudry’ by Christophe Fratin (French, 1801 – 1864). This bronze, signed by the artist ‘Fratin’, inscribed ‘Le Père Oudry’ and stamped by the foundry ‘Daubree’, has a dark brown patina with reddy brown highlights. The bear is sitting on a barrel which can be opened halfway to form a container.
