Pair of Race Horses, c. 1870

John Willis Good

A rare, fine quality pair of nineteenth century equestrian bronzes entitled ‘Before and After the Race’ by John Willis Good (English, 1845-1879). These bronzes were cast by the sand cast process at the Elkington Foundry, Birmingham. They are signed ‘J. Willis Good’ and stamped ‘Elkington & Co.’ and have a rich dark brown patina with reddy brown highlights.
