Lion and Tiger, life-size c. 1865
A fine quality, rare, nineteenth century cast iron pair of a ‘Life-size Lion and Tiger’ by Henri-Alfred Jacquemart (French, 1824-1896). These sculptures were cast at the Barbezat Foundry, Val d’Osne, near Dijon. The Tiger is signed with the artist’s initial ‘A.J’ and the Lion has the mark of the foundry ‘Barbezat & Cie. / Val d’Osne’. They both have a weathered dark brown patina.
