Mario Restelli

Italian, 1891–1961

He could shift easily from scrupulous goldsmith work to animalier sculpture and refined furnishings, making his works soft and ductile, clearly derived from the sculptures of Scapigliatura.

He began producing sculpture in the 1920s and his sculptural production which spanned some 40 years comprises a rich body of works. His works often have a fairy-tale quality which attracted a small and passionate group of collectors from the Milanese bourgeoisie. Although Restelli’s work has largely remained hidden, it was shown in several exhibitions from 1925, when he was awarded a gold medal at the Paris Exhibition of Decorative Art.

Little is known of this Italian sculptor who work, often carvings are extremely rare to the market.
