Dogs, Cats and Other Best Friends

Published - 7th Dec 2020

A short film of our exhibition ‘Dogs, Cats and Other Best Friends’ which shows sculptures depicting different styles from the faithfully realistic, to the impressionists, to the contemporary, to the independent. Animals on show will include dogs, cats, sheep, cows, horses, rabbits, rats and chameleons.

Sladmore’s origins in a breathing menagerie, evolved to host both live and bronze creatures by the 1960s and this tradition continues today over fifty years later in annual shows in our Contemporary, Modern and Antique sculpture collections. A renewed appreciation for the simplicity these animals bring to our lives in times of upheaval, has inspired a selection of pieces from our three centuries of sculpture.

The exhibition displays images of the artists with their inspirational pets from turn of the century artists such as Edouard Sandoz with his beloved Fennec Foxes to our contemporary artists such as Nic Fiddian Green’s with his horse George.
