A pupil Antoine Louis Barye, Chemin made his salon début in Paris in 1857. He produced models of dogs, foxes and hares, as well as figures of horses, often with their riders.
Little is known of Victor Chemin, beyond the fact that he was a pupil of the renowned Animalier master Antoine-Louis Barye.
We know what he first exhibited at the Salon in 1851 and that he was a regular exhibitor from 1857 to 1894. His subjects were for the most part dogs, foxes, hares and monkeys. Chemin died in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1901.
