Dragonfly Salver, c. 1910

Carlo Bugatti

An important silver ‘Dragonfly Tray’ by Carlo Bugatti (Italian, 1856-1940). This tray is signed ‘Carlo Bugatti’ and engraved by the foundry ‘A.A. Hébrard, 8 Rue Royale, Paris’. The dragonfly was Bugatti’s favourite organic motif and is to be found frequently on his furniture either incorporated into inlaid metal designs, in watercolour sketches on parchment or as gilded bronze mounts.
